S/O/M/A
The poems in Jamie Parsley's S/O/M/A are quiet yet powerful. The series of poetic observations Parsley has on Marjorie Schlossman's artwork reveals an awe of the world and revels in the mysteries of life. The poetry reads like an invitation to reflect on what can be silently observed. But there is a price one pays for silence: the poems "Defense Mechanism" and "Femur and Luna" touch on feelings of loneliness. But there are two sides to this coin: many of the poems are about the beauty that can be discovered in solitude, which Parsley dives into with a mystical heart. As my own poetic practice leans into the chaos of the world, reading this gorgeous collection of poems helped me find a much needed stillness. Anyone who wants a poetic respite from the chaotic times we live in will definitely enjoy this book.
