Ruthless Devotion

The Gilded Monsters series is what hooked me into Rebecca Kenney's books, so I was excited for the latest installment in this dark romantasy series. Ruthless Devotion is a retelling of Wuthering Heights where Cathy and Heathcliff are supernatural being. The blossoming romance is very erotic. But Cathy has grown up in a cult that has become physically abusive, which is the central piece to the plot.

I consume ALOT of horror and this story has vibes similar to Wickerman and Midnight Mass.  Cults are a favorite trope of mine in  dark fiction. Authentic portrayals of the complexities of religious trauma are narratives are always welcome in my library.  The magical components and the sexually explicit scenes make an otherwise extremely psychologically intense plot more emotionally  palatable. Kenney really hits home with the way she handles this material.

Rebbeca Kenney has become an insta buy author for me even before this book. I love the combination of dark romance, fantasy and smut that she has in all of her books. So far Ruthless Devotion is my favorite in the Gilded Monsters series and I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.
