to Ghosts At Parties is a delightful new collection of flash fiction. The
stories were so entertaining and clever, causing me to read the book very quickly.
Reading it was like munching on a bag of chips—each story on its own is pleasurable
and you can’t stop reading after just one story. Dark realities of corporate life is a
theme in the book, exhibited in “In the Place Where All of Your Bandmates Go,” “Clamp
Down” & “Infinite Growth.” However, these dark realities are approached
with a witty sense of humor. White is able to take simple things like a toaster
in “Toast” and also more complex ideas like Astronomy in “Eric the Astronomer”
and weave them into poetic meditations. Many
of his stories use satire, providing commentary on social media in “The Lost
Art of Letter Writing” in addition to observations on daily interactions such
as in “Crisis Actor” and “Pop Music Is the Ideal Music to Run To.” The stories
are bingeable, reading one of them won’t be enough to satiate a literary
appetite. Now I want to go back for
