Wendy Darling

I REALLY enjoyed Wendy Darling. It is a feminist retelling of Peter Pan from the perspective of a grown up Wendy. This is her journey back to Neverland trying to get her daughter back after Peter showed up unexpectedly and took her daughter away with him. One thing I really appreciated about this story is that it shows a very dark version of Peter and the lost boys without taking away from the magic of Neverland. I also appreciated the flashbacks unearthing the family dynamics with her brothers as they grew up after their Neverland adventures.

The narrative also goes back and forth with the perspective of Wendy and her daughter Jane, however I would have liked to have Jane's character developed more. What the reader does get from Jane is fascinating as she experiences Neverland quite differently than her mother did, however her character could have been fleshed out a lot more.

However overall as a lover of dark fantasy and feminist retellings of fairy tales, I really felt like this was a wonderful story. It provided a lot of magical escapism!
